Summer to Fall Workwear Style
Given I am a medical professional, I have to dress up for work five days a week. So I am starting to post more about what I wear to work, as I have found many of my readers like this type of inspiration. As summer is winding down, coming up with outfits that work for fall but yet are still appropriate for the warmer summer temperatures can be challenging.
So when you are deciding on fall workwear pieces, color choice has the biggest impact. Darker colors such as navy, burgundy, red, green, gray and black are more common in the fall. Layering is a great way to incorporate these colors with lighter summer pieces. While I didn’t use any layering pieces in this post, the colors in this outfit are definitely more appropriate for fall. I’ve always loved the color combination of navy and gray. These two colors are classic and they complement each other very well.
Ann Taylor Scallop Trim Sweater Shell
My top is the versatile Scallop Trim sweater shell by Ann Taylor. This shell is a perfect summer to fall transition piece. It is hard to see in the pictures but the scallops have a white border that really adds to the detail of this sweater. It also comes in white. I am wearing the XXS as it doesn’t come in petite sizes. I am wearing it here with an A-line sweater skirt (worn previously in this post), but this could easily be worn with a nice pair of slacks, or with a pencil skirt. A gray or white blazer would be the perfect way to style this top professionally for the office.
To complement the navy top I am wearing a simple pair of Cole Haan navy heels. A pearl necklace keeps the look simple and classic. My gray bag complements the color of the skirt.
Overall, this look is stylish, professional, and classic summer to fall transition work outfit.
As always, thanks for looking!
