Strawberry Picking Season
With summer upon us, I am always looking for fun and new things to do with the kids. They absolutely love doing any outdoor activity that they can do. Luckily where we live there are lots of fun things to do outdoors in the summertime. One of our favorite things to do is strawberry picking, and this is the perfect time of year to do so. We first headed to Rowe’s Produce Farm three years ago for strawberry picking, and we had so much fun then that we decided to do it again!
When I was a kid I was always doing fun activities such as fishing with my dad and berry picking with my mom. I distinctly remember making jars of blackberry jam with all the blackberries we picked one season! So when it comes to my own children, I want them to have those same kinds of childhood memories. For the three years That we lived in Las Vegas when my kids were young, berry picking was out of the question (which made me pretty sad). So when we came to Michigan when I was 36 weeks pregnant, I made it a point to take my kids blueberry picking in the blazing August heat (and they didn’t complain!).
With all the rain we’ve had lately, strawberry season was more than a little uncertain. Thankfully we had a brief reprieve from all the rainy weather. There were so many giant, luscious strawberries to pick!
Levi’s Denim Shorttalls
When it comes to strawberry picking, comfortable clothing is a must. I absolutely love wearing these (also here) Levi’s denim shorttalls on a casual summer day. I’ve always loved wearing overalls in the summer, ever since my college days. And strawberry picking is the perfect occasion for doing so! Underneath them I am wearing my favorite J. Crew Factory striped t-shirt in pink. And this classic straw tote from Sea and Grass was just what we needed for the day.
My daughter did an amazing job picking all the strawberries she did! She and her brothers and sister had a contest to see who could pick the most strawberries the fastest. Honestly they all did a great job, and it ended up being a tie.
The strawberries were definitely tasty! Stay tuned to find out exactly what we ended up doing with them!
So what would you do with 10 pounds of strawberries? I’d love to hear! And as always, thanks for stopping by!
