Pantry Renovation with California Closets

Today’s post is one that I have been excited to post about for months! I love posting about my home, and I have only been showing you select parts of my home as the rest of it is still a work in progress (expect to see more in the upcoming months). One of my favorite home makeover products the have done so far is the pantry. The pantry for us in many ways is the heart of the home, as it the one room where everyone in the family goes into on a daily basis. My pantry came with the standard builder-grade wire shelving that comes with many new-build homes, and I hated it the minute we moved into our house four years ago. So when I had the opportunity to collaborate with California Closets, I was beyond thrilled!!

My design consultant, Jenna from the Birmingham Michigan store, was so helpful and easy to work with. She made the design process so easy! And we were able to design my dream pantry from within the comfort of my own home.

My Pantry Before Renovations

Honestly and truly, I am embarrassed to post this picture. My chaotic pantry embodies what our family life is truly like. While my typical blog photos show perfect hair with a well-coordinated outfit, or a neatly decorated room that is spotless, this is what my life is really like. A chaotic, jumbled mess. This pantry was so utterly disorganized, that I never knew what I really had in it, and I could never find what I really needed. I needed help, and very badly! It was a good thing we had to completely empty out the pantry for the renovation, as I was able to sort through what we needed and didn’t need.

Meeting Jenna was such a sigh of relief! She was able to show me many different designs that would work well with the space we have.

In addition to showing me different designs, Jenna also brought with her different sample pieces. I told her I wanted white cabinets and we were able to find the trim pieces that work with our current home design.

Jenna showed me three different designs, all at different price points. In the end I chose a design that I had envisioned for years in my head, and she brought it to life!

Pantry After Renovations

And here it is! What a difference in the before and after! I have to say the renovation process could not have been easier. California Closets came in on the first day to tear down and paint my old pantry. The next day they were back to build the new one. From start to finish, the entire process took two days. And no detail was overlooked in this pantry design. The shelves have all the space I need to store what I need to store, and now it even has drawers to keep out of sight what I don’t want seen.

You know that feeling when your house is clean, or the laundry is finally folded? That was how I felt, only ten times the relief. Finally I have the pantry of my dreams. Forever gone is the chaotic and disorganized panty that I hated, and now I have a pantry that is honestly Pinterest-worthy.

Pantry Organization Tips

I really put a lot of thought into how I would organize the pantry so I can keep it organized. Now that everything has it’s place, I am able to keep it organized on a daily basis, and it really isn’t a lot of work to do so.

Keeping things organized with containers is key. I love these 5.5 quart OXO Pop up containers for storing things like flour, sugar, and rice. I use these smaller 2.4 quart containers to store things like powdered sugar, and oats. This gravity feeder is perfect for storing cans in an easy to access, organized fashion. And for functional and decorative storage I got these glass canisters with olivewood lids for storing things like pasta and quinoa.

In my old pantry I had many smaller OXO pop up containers. In reality those really weren’t practical to store things. I used to store things like nuts in the smaller ones, but since we discovered my daughter has a life-threatening nut allergy, we are a nut-free home. Instead I opted for these Yamazaki Tosca storage baskets. These are great for storing and easily accessing things like popcorn, dried milk and dried cranberries. And these marble lazy-susans are perfect for storing things in hard to reach corners.

My favorite aspect of the pantry design has to be the drawers and the shelves above them. Finally a place to neatly store all my recipe books. With the drawers I can store things like fruit, onions, and potatoes. Not to mention the drawers are a great place to store lunchboxes too!

My kids (and I) love to eat apples and oranges. We go through so many that a simple fruit bowl will not do. The drawers are rather large, which is great, but I also got these bamboo drawer dividers to partition off separate spaces in the drawer.

To store smaller items such as K-cups and smaller packets of things, I like these glass slant jars (seen in chrome here).

For overflow storage of things like flour, cereal, and pasta, these sturdy wicker baskets work perfectly. And just so I know what is inside of the baskets, I label everything with these chalkboard tags and this chalk pin.

Overall, I do not hesitate to recommend California Closets, as the design process is easy, the cost is affordable, and I was able to get the pantry of my dreams!

I hope you have found this post helpful, and please do not hesitate to ask any questions.
