Golden Goose Sneaker Review
I finally caved. After putting a pair of Golden Goose sneakers on my wishlist over a year ago, I couldn’t justify the price for “dirty” shoes that cost upwards of $500-$600. However the more and more I saw how versatile they are, and how good they looked, I became more and more persuaded to finally hit the buy button. And I am so glad I did! I have lots of different sneakers, but nothing really compares to the comfort and style of these Golden Goose Superstar sneakers. So today I wanted to share with you exactly what I think about them, where to buy them, and how to go about choosing your size. Golden Goose sneakers are definitely an investment, so I also wanted to feature a few of my favorite alternatives and “dupes”.
Are Golden Goose Sneakers Worth the Price?
Obviously this is a very personal decision. There are lots of comfortable sneakers on the market. I own lots of sneakers, and when I’m not dressed for work or shooting pictures of different outfits, I’m in a pair of sneakers. From an orthopedic standpoint, sneakers really are the best for your feet as you don’t want to end up with bunions and hammertoes when you get older! However, Golden Goose has really cornered the market when it comes to comfortable and stylish sneakers. You can slip on a pair of Golden Goose sneakers with whatever you are wearing, and instantly look chic. You can wear them just as easily with leggings and jeans as you can skirts and dresses. And these sneakers work for every season, from winter to summer.
The company itself was created by two Venetian designers, Francesca Rinaldo and Alessandro Gallo in the year 2000. At the time they were considered outsiders in the fashion world. But over they years they defined their brand via their distinctive vintage styles, yet at the same time they play homage to their strong sartorial Italian roots. It is easy to see why Golden Goose has created such a cult following!
Sizing and Comfort
Since Golden Goose is an Italian brand these shoes do come in standard Italian sizes. I normally wear a 7.5 so that means a 37.5 would be my Italian size. However these shoes do not come in half sizes, so it is recommended to size down. I actually did not do that (I’ve always had bad luck sizing down) and went up to a 38. And that was definitely the right choice for me. As soon as I put these shoes on they felt insanely comfortable! There was definitely no break in period needed. The first day I wore them I walked all around town (getting my 10,000 steps) and my feet didn’t hurt at all. And you don’t have to worry about wearing socks with them (though I did wear these Sheec no show socks with mine). These are a little bit more white that what is typical for the brand, but with as much walking as I do I know they will look worn pretty soon.
Selection and Where to Buy
Golden Goose sneakers are truly an artisanal sneaker. Their shoes are known for being “lived in” and each shoe has a distinctly different style. They only make a limited number of each shoe, and they are constantly coming out with new designs! Golden Goose sneakers are definitely an investment, but these are shoes that you will be able to wear over and over again, year after year. And because they are designed to be “dirty” you don’t have to worry about ruining a nice white pair of sneakers!
As for my favorite places to purchase, online is the best. I actually purchased mine at Selfridges (a British brand that does fast shipping to the US). The selection is great, and I found the prices to be a little bit lower (and no tax!).
If you want an American place to shop, Shopbop is great and you can get them at a discount during one of their sales.
And if you shop at Nordstrom and collect points, this can also be a great way to shop and save money.
The Best Golden Goose Dupes
If you just don’t want to spend the money, don’t despair! There are still lots of great options available for comfortable and fashionable sneakers. If you want a dupe, this one by Steve Madden is leather and is under $60. If price is the ultimate consideration, then these shoes will not break the bank. But if you want a similar look that isn’t a dupe, I highly recommend these Veja sneakers (seen in this post). For a fashionable canvas sneaker with a similar aesthetic to Golden Goose, I really like these Superga sneakers. And you can never go wrong with these Adidas superstar shoes!
Anyway, I hope you have found today’s Golden Goose review post helpful! And do not hesitate to reach out with questions!
