Finding the Time to Exercise

One of the biggest question I get from my readers is, “how do I have time to do it all?”. I work full-time as a physician, I have four small children, and I run a blog. I have been doing these three things for the last ten years (though the fashion blog has only been a little over a year) and I will say it is a constant struggle! There are never enough hours in the day it seems. When my children were very young, I was so busy with them that I didn’t have the time for exercise. But as I have gotten older, and so have they, exercise has become much more a priority in my life.  And really, the only way to find the time to exercise is to make it a priority! I try to set aside time at least three times a week to take forty minutes or so to do something, even if it is as simple as a seven minute workout when I get home from work. What I really enjoy most though is running. Running is hard work, and it takes training to build up endurance, but I feel so alive and healthy after doing a run! This is what motivates me to keep doing it.

I love running outside when the weather permits. How do I run when I have kids? I bring them with me! If you’ve followed me at all on Instastories, you’ll see me do periodic updates about the runs I go on with my girls. Two years ago my daughter (she was 7 at the time) and I trained with the Couch to 5K app. We were pretty out of shape at the time, but we just did what the app said to do (it’s nice to have goals) and within three months we were ready to run our first 5K. I told my daughter at the time she would get to be sprayed with rainbows (We did the Color Run). We ran the race the whole time and we felt great doing it! After that we kept up with it and now it is our special bonding time as well. This year, her older sister joined us for our regular runs too.

prAna –  Clothing for Any Lifestyle

So how do I find the time to run with my extremely busy lifestyle? Time is very precious to me, so when I exercise, I usually don’t have time to shower and get changed to go about my day. So I need workout clothing that I can wear for any lifestyle and any adventure. My workout clothes have to be versatile enough to wear for a workout, and my busy day after the workout. This is where prAna clothing fits in well for my lifestyle. PrAna’s mission is to “inspire healthy, active, and free-spirited living”. PrAna wants you to be wearing clothing that is a reflection of who you are and what you feel and value. For me that means a confident, but calm and relaxed look and feeling (as so often I am anything but this!).  How does prAna ensure that their clothing works for any adventure?  All of the designers at prAna create and test all of their clothing based on their own love for outdoor activities.

Here I am wearing the prAna Rockaway Jacket. This two-toned honeycomb fleece jacket is simple, yet comfortable and stylish. The fabric is of medium weight, and is perfect for those chilly fall days. My leggings are the prAna Moto Leggings. These mid-rise leggings are form fitting yet comfortable at the same time. They do have a 29″ inseam which is a bit long on my petite frame. I did fold these leggings under so the length would be appropriate on me. These Moto leggings are comfortable enough for running on a cooler fall day, yet they are stylish enough that I can continue to wear them for my busy day beyond my usual run.

  1. Great post and love the outfit! One suggestion tho, try to not place your foot on your knee when doing tree pose as that tends to cause knee issues in some people.
