Talbots Because Im a Lady Campaign

When I think of being a lady in the traditional sense, I think of the perfect woman – elegant, always polite, never offensive, always has dinner on the table, and she is dressed to perfection. The problem is though, the idea of the perfect lady is totally different than how my life really is.

I will admit it, my life borders on controlled chaos so much of the time. I am a doctor, a wife, a mom to four, and I’m crazy enough to run a fashion blog on top of it all.  Many people think that my life looks easy, but that is far from the case. Mornings are a bit crazy at our house, as it is a bit like hearding cats trying to get four young children out the door and off to school.  Work itself is nonstop throughout the day, as patients always need my help. I leave work at 5:30 to come home and cook dinner/run kids to their activities. Blogging is done at night and on the weekends. I try to get dinner on the table, but sometimes it is takeout. I try to be polite, but on more than one occasion I have been told I am “bossy”.  And when given the chance, I am happy enough to wear yoga pants and a sweatshirt. And you know what, that is perfectly OK for today’s modern woman. It has to be!

I have been a loyal Talbots shopper for years. I love their classic, modern styles that always make me look and feel my best! Talbots offers sizing of all different ranges, and their petite styles are what I like the most. So when I learned that Talbots was launching their new #BecauseI’mALady campaign, I couldn’t be more thrilled! The Because Im a Lady campaign is celebrating what it means to be a modern “lady” – intelligent, witty, and most of all a real woman you can sit and laugh with.

I love that Talbots is taking a leading role in empowering women. Talbot’s wants to “set the record straight”.  According to Talbots, “The term “lady” has previously been used to describe a “gentle and polite woman.” But today, being a lady doesn’t come with the same set of prim and proper rules, manners and meanings it did fifty years ago. Which is why we at Talbots – a company made up of 92% women – are here to evolve this old-fashioned word and celebrate the modern classic women redefining it. Because today, being a “lady” is defining it for yourself and being unapologetically you – real, confident, fun and imperfectly enchanting.”

Check out what Talbot’s had to say to Mirriam Webster about the meaning of the word “lady”:

So what does being a lady mean to me? It means being confident and considerate of others.  It means despite the chaos, I make it a point to spend quality time with my husband and kids. It means it is OK if the house isn’t perfectly clean. It means if I get a moment to myself I will fully embrace it. And it means I will spend more time laughing hysterically with friends and family as that is what is really important.

  1. Confidence and kindness equal being a lady to me. Women take on many roles. It is ok to not do everything. Choose what is important to you and concentrate on giving those things your best. Above all stay true to yourself.

  2. Being a modern lady means always striving to be your best even when life seems to surround you in chaos. It means bringing people up and apologizing when you don’t quite hit the mark. It also means having fun and being grateful everyday for your blessings!

  3. Carrying myself with my head held high, that I have got this, with determination I can overcome obstacles that are in my way and head on to the path of success.

  4. Being a lady means to me, that you’re confident in who you are – the whole of you…..It’s not following the latest fads but being soft, beautiful from the inside out….being respectful and respectable. I think that when a woman focusses on remaining soft and beautiful from the inside out, she shines and that shining ‘light’ is what makes her the most beautiful woman.

  5. Being a lady to me means being classy, dressing appropriately for the occasion, and being sure that your words are edifying and encouraging to everyone around you.

  6. I love Talbots, as being a lady to me is being able to dress up and look pretty, not just always be in exercise and cleaning clothes. I love feeling feminine and looking classy. Talbots is great for work clothes, but casual and special occasions, too. I love your look!

  7. Being a lady is being capable, strong, and confident; utilizing the talents we have been blessed with to balance our own lives, and have a positive impact on the people around us.

  9. Being kind, dressing with respect, always love others. Don’t judge, work hard and be an example for others

  10. Being a lady means that I am special and must act accordingly. It’s my duty to some degree to caretake children and elders…or those who are emotionally or physically unable to themselves. It also means I should know right from wrong.

  11. Being a modern lady is being thoughtful of others and yourself. Knowing boundaries and pursuing your gifts and passions.

  12. A lady is polite, caring, respectful and always holds herself in a manner that befits the word class…My mom was a lady….

  13. Being a lady means being fierce, confident, practical—while always exercising good manners and kindness.

  14. BRINGING FEMININITY TO EVERYTHING I DO, IS WHAT BEING A LADY MEANS TO ME. I THINK THIS IS A FORGOTTEN ARTFORM.

  15. To know what Being a Lady means to me is to watch my wife, she cares for our family with mercy, class and unconditional love. She needs all of these as she cares for the 10 kids, 5 out of HS now but a few challenges with the sdopted ones 🙂

  16. A modern lady has many responsibilities. We have husband’s, jobs, kids, etc. We are classy and sophisticated. We are smart. And we are kind.

  17. It means being true to yourself, and feeling good whether you are all dressed up or relaxing in some jeans and a tee 🙂

  18. being a lady…strong even when she does’t feel strong, confident when she feels inferior, respectful and kind always!

  19. To me, being a lady means to respect myself as well as others. It means taking pride in always putting my best foot forward.

  20. Being a lady means respecting yourself and others. It means doing the right thing even when it is difficult.

  21. Being a lady means being true to myself and others. I value myself and my time and others see that and respect that.

  22. A lady takes care of herself, as well as her family, with no complaint. She’s strong but sympathetic and loving. She knows that if she can’t take care of herself first, then she’s unable to take care of anyone else.

  23. It means living your life without conforming to other’s behavior-doing what you feel is right and best.

  29. Being a lady means I can dress up and look hot if I want to, stay home and wear yoga pants and a comfy sweatshirt if I want to, or go to work and wear my scrubs and get dirty taking care of others, helping deliver babies, because it’s what I love to do!

  32. Only I can hinder myself – the stumbling stones along our lives are just challenges to strive further, try harder and hold oneself accountable for their actions. I LOVE being a woman (at age 6 I wrote that I wanted to grow up and be a woman just like my Mom….loving, caring and respectful as well as strong and determined!). I love when I am called a lady…makes me know I have made it!

  33. To me, being a lady means respecting others (even if you disagree with them), and putting others first. “First, do no harm.”

  34. Being a “lady” doesn’t mean anything stereotypical. It means being anything you want-nothing gender specific. I’m a tomboy so I wouldn’t know about being ladylike.

  35. When I think of what being a lady means I can’t help
But think of Provetbs 31, which also is my Mother, her Mother, my grandmother and my daddy’s mother, my Mamaw. It’s all in that chapter.

  36. Being a lady to me means being strong and also loving and caring. I think the greatest thing in life for me is being a mom to my Chloe Pearl!

  37. Being a lady to me means being strong, firm and loyal in your beliefs and stance and NEVER apologizing for it- even if it pisses people off. Being a lady in this world means making the world yours- like a man does, but doing it better than they ever could

  38. To me being a lady means possessing dignity and grace through all situations. It also means being respectful to others and never being demeaning or cruel.
