A Picnic In the Park

Today’s post is such a fun one! With summer in full swing, I try to take every chance I get to hang out with the kids. One of our favorite summer activities is a picnic in the park! I try to take my kids on at least one picnic every year, and we always have the best time when doing so!

It was a girl’s night out for this summer picnic. My oldest was kind enough to take the pictures (she does an amazing job for an 11 year old!) and my younger daughter and I decided to wear white dresses. There are so many fun places to have a picnic, but I found the perfect little meadow right outside where I work. My youngest loved having a mommy daughter day out (though everyone joined in the feast later). And for the special occasion I made her favorite pink lemonade with Torani Raspberry Syrup.  If you’ve ever read the book Pinkalicous, my daughter totally reminds me of the main character.

Sharing lemonade together was the most fun part of the picnic!

What to Pack

Besides lemonade, what do you bring on a picnic with tween girls? Obviously you could bring sandwiches or takeout, but we decided to bring a healthy fruit and cheese board. You typically see this when paired with a bottle of wine, but it was just as good with lemonade too! We packed everything up in this picnic basket. So what do you need for the perfect cheese board?

  • Soft and creamy cheese (we love brie)
  • Firm cheese (such as cheddar)
  • Hard cheese (like a parmigian or fontina)
  • Cheese knives (one for each cheese)
  • A baguette and crackers (my kids love the miniature toast!)
  • Jam to go with your toast/crackers

Torani Raspberry Syrup

As I said, all of my kids love pink lemonade! And I can’t think of a simpler way to make it other than using Torani Raspberry or Torani Strawberry syrup added to lemonade. Seriously the Torani syrup adds such a nice flavor to an otherwise ordinary lemonade. I like to make my lemonade from scratch (see below for recipe), but you can easily use a pre-made lemonade and add the Torani syrup. It doesn’t take much (1/2 tsp per 4 cups) to make the raspberry flavor pleasantly noticeable. And adding the syrup definitely makes our lemonade a pretty pink color too!
